Time Flies. Can you believe we only have 3 weeks until school will be half over? I always tell the teachers and staff that it is a short time between the opening of school and the closing of school. You have to put a smile on and enjoy the ‘learning' in between. We have had a fantastic year so far. Here are the highlights for me: Reading Series--The students are diving into our new reading series in a spectacular manner. It is exciting to walk down the hall and hear a student say, "That straw is flexible. " Then you hear another student say,"You just used one of our vocabulary words." Parties with the Principal for Perfect Attendance-Any time I get to spend with the students is always special. Veterans Day Program-As always, the teachers and students were amazing in their tribute to our Veterans. I was awe struck when I looked up in the stand and saw the flag that the fourth and fifth graders had made. This is one of the ways we make history come alive and say thank you to the people who make our freedom possible. SamanthaFest--Children and adults enjoying the fair-like atmosphere in a very safe, relaxed and fun environment is one of the highlights for the community. Hats off to Crystal Marquis and company for making this an event to remember. Positive Behavior Support Team-This program and team is designed to help students and teachers in dealing with discipline issues in a very positive manner. Teachers and staff members have been giving Gotcha's. Ask your child how many Gotcha's they have received. The team has some great ideas!! Computers from NASA-Yes, we received 40 donated desk tops and 20 lap tops from NASA. Ask Mrs. Hamner about her trip to pick up the computers. I think she still has a picture of the truck she borrowed from the county. As you can see there is an abundance of learning and growing opportunities at Walker. Remember, our number one priority is to work as a TEAM in helping your child to grow to meet their full potential. You are a vital part of this TEAM. Keep talking with the students, staff, teachers, and administrators to help make this the best learning experience for your child!! We are all growing and learning ever day, join us in this adventure!! Learning is a journey not a destination---
